A Haliburton musician who has toured with The Guess
Who and April Wine was critically injured Monday
night in a head-on collision in Australia.
Carl Dixon was driving back from a recording studio
where he’s working on an album to the family’s other
home in Daylesford, about a 90-minute drive from
Melbourne, when the accident occurred, his daughter
Carlin told the Star this morning
The album is related to a popular Australian
children’s television program, The Saddle Club, in
which Dixon’s other daughter Lauren, 12, plays the
lead role of Stevie.
Carlin, 15, said her mother called to tell her Dixon
has “broken bones and bumps and bruises,” but no
internal, spinal or head injuries.
“He really just needs all the support he can get and
all the love of his fans,” she said.
Police in Victoria said a Canadian man was driving a
Toyota Corolla south on Ballan-Daylesford Rd. when
it collided with a Toyota Land Cruiser traveling
north around 7:45 p.m. local time. He was airlifted
to Alfred Hospital with injuries described as
critical.
An early news report broadcast by a local radio
station, 3BA & Power FM, said the man suffered head,
limb and severe internal injuries.
The driver of the other vehicle was taken to
hospital with serious injuries.
Dixon was a member of the Toronto band Coney Hatch
in the 1980s. He currently hosts a radio show at
Canoe FM, a volunteer radio station in Haliburton,
and acts as the station’s music director.
“He’s a very gentle man, a sweetheart, he’s kind to
a fault,” said Canoe FM morning show host Mike
Jaycock. “When it came to the radio station, he
found it a creative outlet.”
According to his website, Dixon toured with The
Guess Who from 1997 to 2000, and has been playing
shows with them as recent as this year. He’s set to
play shows in the U.S. this week.
Dixon’s wife is with her husband in hospital, and
Carlin is set to fly out to meet them early this
afternoon. |
